I regularly walk in and around Mount Caburn, close to both Lewes and Glyndebourne and the landscape is imbued in my soul.
I began listening to the John Martyn instrumental track Glistening Glyndebourne many years before I knew about Glyndebourne as an operau house or attended an opera there.
John Martyn lived in Hastings for a while in the 70s so I imagine he visited Glyndebourne. I had a romantic idea that the Bless The Weather and Solid Air albums were inspired by his train journeys on his way home to Hastings from London; that songs like The Man in the Station and Over The Hill were conceived on rickety British Rail trains passing through Lewes and Glynde. Or perhaps not.
Music: Glistening Glyndebourne by John Martyn.
